Pitted Acne Scars

The pitted acne scar is about as bad as acne scars can get. With this type of scar a layer of the skin is damaged and causes a depressed hole on the skin. Pitted scars are also called ice-pick scars. Even if you are having success treating your pimples the scars already there will remain and look bad. There is some good news tho as pitted and or pigmented scars can now be treated successfully.

There are now many treatments on the market for this type of scarring. Of course some work better than others, some are very expensive and some of the remedies can be bought cheaply over the counter. Other solutions can require a prescription.

Pitted acne scar removal procedures and information

We’ll start with the surgical procedures to remove scarring. Dermatologists are now using lasers to get rid of or minimize the scars from acne. There is some danger with this procedure as there is a chance of more scarring, permanent redness and irritation or possibly infections. Laser scar removal is expensive and requires a specialist for the procedure.

Next on the list is prescription medicines. Many or these medications claim to get rid of pitted acne scars quickly but the sad fact is few of these work very well. While these medications are usually a cream or lotion there are a lot of warnings on the packages about possible side effects that you really don’t want. When using these prescription meds it can take months before you see any difference and a lot of people never see any changes at all.

Then there are the over the counter creams and lotions that you can find at your local pharmacy or drug store. These topical products work by helping the body regenerate skin cells and increase collagen in the skin. Some of them work a little and make the skin look better but the scars are still there and when you stop using the products you go back to where you started.

There are also cosmetic procedures that work for some people. One of the most used is a cosmetic peel. It’s a bit painful and doesn’t always work. Plus you’ll be off of work for a few days due to redness and irritation. It’s also an expensive procedure. Of course it’s not as expensive as laser treatments.

If you’ve never heard of punch excision you need to check it out as it is one of the basic scar removal procedures. It can be used on any type of scars and it gets good results because each scar is dealt with one at a time. With punch excision when the recovery time is over you will have a better looking skin with a much nicer texture.

Dermabrasion has also been around for a long time and it works by getting rid of the damaged skin so new skin can grow. It works pretty well and it’s fast as it only takes about an hour and you are done. For most people dermabrasion works well for resurfacing, or refinishing, the skin. It does give a smoother texture and a more even complexion.

If you can’t afford the expensive treatments there are natural solutions. Most of the natural solutions you will find have mucin, which comes from snails and it helps to protect the skin from free radicals, oxidation and ultraviolet rays from the sun. Mucin also removes damaged cells and replaces them with collagen and elastin plus helps the skin retain water for a much smoother appearance.

For pitted acne scars that are to deep, stronger remedies are recommended like microdermabrasion, fat injections, cosmetic fillers, laser surgery and deep cosmetic fillings.

Both types of acne scars can be treated with the natural creams. However you need to be aware that you may have to use them twice a day for three months or longer to see any good results.
